Mental Health Programs
Community Based Family Services
Building upon families' strengths and empowering them to succeed
Stanford Sierra Youth & Families provides Community Based Family Services (CBFS). The program offers a wide array of specialized mental/behavioral health services and supports and is designed to provide a “safety-net” for families with children and youth (ages 0-21) who are struggling at home, school, or in the community. The program is unique in that clinicians partner with youth and their families to assess and determine an individualized plan for services and supports that focuses on family strengths and the overall emotional, behavioral health and well-being of youth.
Family Preservation
Keeping youth safe and together with their families
Stanford Sierra Youth & Families believes each and every child deserves the love, safety, and unconditional commitment of a family and the opportunity to develop as a healthy and productive young adult. Thus, lifelong permanency is at the heart of our agency’s Family Preservation work, as we help to establish and maintain stable and permanent families.
Flexible Integrated Treatment
Empowering youth to reach their full potential
Flexible Integrated Treatment (FIT) provides a “safety-net” for our community’s youth and their families who require mental health interventions and/or support. Our program is unique in that our mental health clinicians partner with youth and their caregivers to assess and determine an individualized plan for services and supports that focuses on family strengths and the overall emotional and behavioral health and well-being of youth. Services are culturally competent, flexible, family driven and can be provided in the home, school, and community settings. The location, frequency, duration, and intensity of services and supports can vary over time, depending on the individual needs of each family.
The goals of the program are to build upon the youth’s strengths and successes, increase resiliency, reinforce family connections, and improve overall mental and behavioral health.

Therapeutic Behavioral Services
Providing youth and families with tools to solve challenges together
Stanford Sierra Youth & Families’ Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) provides community-based, one-on-one, short-term, support to youth who are at risk of being moved to a higher, more restrictive living environment (i.e. psychiatric hospitalization or group home) or need support transitioning to a less restrictive living environment (i.e. family or resource (foster) family home).
TBS is an adjunct program, meaning youth must be enrolled in a primary mental health service to be eligible. Services address specific target behaviors in order to prevent unnecessary residential placements, psychiatric hospitalizations, and discharges to higher levels of care. We partner with youth, their caregivers, their treatment team and other natural support persons in their life to help facilitate lasting behavior change. The goal is for youth to retain their current placement or move to a lower level of care.
