We are thrilled to highlight an inspiring match that has been together for five and a half years. This journey began when the Guide met the Explorer at the tender age of 13. Throughout her teenage years, the Explorer has had the unwavering support of the Guide. Initially, the Explorer was in foster care, but since then, she has been adopted by the same caregiver, providing her with stability and permanency alongside a consistent mentor.

One of the Guide’s most cherished memories is a day they spent together in San Francisco. They explored the city, enjoyed the sights, and ended the day with a delicious meal at a mac and cheese restaurant in Oakland. Yet, beyond these adventures, their favorite moments are often the simplest—sitting in the car and sharing heartfelt conversations.

Recently, the Guide, along with two Wonder staff members, had the honor of witnessing the Explorer graduate from high school. The graduation ceremony was a testament to the Explorer’s resilience and hard work, attended by a supportive team that included her adoptive and biological families, as well as her mentoring team. It was a truly amazing experience.

Adding to the celebration, the Explorer received a scholarship from our program, which she plans to use to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinary technician. This scholarship not only recognizes her academic achievements but also supports her passion for animal care, setting her on a path toward a fulfilling career.

Over the years, this match has been actively involved in our LIT (Leaders in Training) program. The Explorer has blossomed into a remarkable leader and serves as a role model for other LITs. Although she will soon graduate from the Wonder Mentoring program, she eagerly asked if she could return to camp as an LIT. 

When asked about the future, the Guide shared a heartfelt sentiment: “Now that she is graduating from the program, I see us staying in each other’s lives. She’s like a little sister to me. I can’t wait to see the things she will do.”

This story is a beautiful reminder of the impact of mentorship and the lasting bonds that can form. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and achievements of this incredible pair.
